Audit & Inventory:

It would be foolhardy in the extreme to commence a migration or renovation project without first documenting all current components, why they are used and where they are used.

Application Migration:

Re-engineer environment specific code, but leave business logic unchanged, e.g. IMS/TM to CICS, 3270 presentation to web.

Language Migration:

e.g. 4GL to COBOL.

Business Rules Extraction:

Extract business logic (rules) from code (e.g. Assembler) impossible to convert or re-engineer.

Middleware and Utility rationalisation:

Analyse and determine requirements for all the various exits and ‘middleware’ components that support and are an integral part of the vast majority of older applications. Converting pure application code alone will often leave essential business functionality missing.

Transparency:

Migrate VSAM or other DBMS data to DB2, yet allow applications to continue to access that data unchanged.
